About Wee Foundation

Women Entrepreneurship and Empowerment (WEE) is a first of its kind social national initiative by IIT Delhi to strengthen women eco system. WEE has been founded under the vision of IIT Delhi Director: Prof V. Ramgopal Rao and is supported by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. WEE intends to focus and ignite a fire amongst women from a college going student to a middle aged housewife to embrace entrepreneurship as a viable, fulfilling career option. WEE was launched on September 26th, 2016 at IIT-Delhi and was inaugurated by Ms. Deepa Malik, first Indian woman to win medal at Paralympic games, Mr. Amitabh Kant, CEO, Niti Aayog, Prof V. Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi , Mr Harkesh Mittal, Head, National Science Technology Entrepreneurship and Development Board, Ms. Shereen Bhan, Managing Editor of CNBC Network-18 , Ms. Asa Torkelson, UNWomen, Deputy Representative India and Multi Country, Ms Nita Kapoor, Head, VCCircle and many other dignitaries. WEE Mentorship Program at IIT Delhi is a path breaking program where a batch of 30 women are trained in entrepreneurship every six months. Step by step guidance is provided to strengthen and validate the business idea. Women entrepreneurs are connected to potential investors and buyers for their products so that they can take their business idea to a financially sustainable enterprise.

Numbers at a glance:


Trained 500 women entrepreneurs in urban India ( Including the women who are connected through the WEE online program). Trained 8,500 women in rural India on various micro enterprise activities like smokeless chulha, biodegradable sanitary napkins, e-chula, organic beekeeping, organic farming, using digital network to sell their wares, handicrafts and hand woven fabrics, etc. enabling these women to start making at least Rs. 10,000/- per month to sustain themselves. Corporate training programs on women safety, training more than 1,000 men by sensitizing them on women issues and treating women with respect. At Wee foundation, it is a belief that it is the men who need to be trained to respect women, rather than women being trained on entrepreneurship. Grant of more than 1 Crore INR given to women entrepreneurs from Government of India. International Women Meets. Mentors from 5 continents. Partnership with Estonia on E-residency program. Israel India women entrepreneurs meet organized in collaboration with Israel Embassy.
